Geo and Marina

Family business. Interrupted and then resumed by two Piedmontese women, Marina Suraci and Georgia Calvo, courageous to invest in a business in these lean times, reduced by the virus crown. Mother and daughter have decided to look to the future together by creating knitted garments with certified organic or recycled yarns, at affordable prices. Plus a home decor capsule of cushions and blankets. To be purchased online only (https://www.marigre.com), with the Marigrè brand (union of their first names plus that of Rebecca, Georgia's little girl).

«Dreamed up in Turin, our line is entirely eco-sustainable and made in Italy. Taking back a history rooted in the clothing field from the times of my father Ernesto who, in the 1950s, had opened Il Maglificio Piemontese in Turin, in via Principessa Clotilde (250 employees). One of the first to export to the United States a high quality product worked on English straight-line machines, very advanced at the time. I joined the company in the '70s to follow the ski and tennis sports collection distributed in Italy also to schools, it was called Pamal.

And I also managed the relationships with American stylists who asked us to create their lines. The knitwear factory was sold in '84. Mum Marina (69 years old) tells us that however she continued to work in the sector as a product manager. First at the Gft Group, then at Fendi collaborating with Karl Lagerfeld. And finally at Valentino, where she remained for 26 years, until 2018. While her daughter Georgia (40), after a degree in Economics and some experiences in communication in Milan, returned to Turin to resume her studies and become an interior designer.

«Last year, at Christmas, mum and I looked at each other and decided it was time to combine experiences by creating our own brand - confides Georgia - So we started with this first Spring Summer 2020 collection using sustainable yarns, such as recycled organic cotton and Detox certified ultrafine Australian merino wool. In our garments, made by workshops in the Biella area and in the Acqui area, we convey the emotions and images of a lifetime, collected during travels around the world.

With a versatile style that mixes French taste with the colors of Northern Europe. We have a nomadic soul that seeks beauty everywhere, always respecting nature. Of course, the corona virus didn't help us. Let's hope that now, once the emergency is over, consumption will start again. We are confident, ours is a high quality product at super democratic prices that start at 87 euros and do not exceed 162». Best wishes.
